Spring “daze”

Spring “daze”, as in dazzle, are now well on their way.Our lavender is quickly turning a light green colour as both Pacific Blue and Grosso adapt to longer days and warmer temperatures

Traditionally lavender has been associated with summer cottage gardens and grandmothers linen.

Nowadays we can grow selected lavender that flower from Spring to Autumn. Some of our non-oil varieties even flower through winter – if we don’t prune them.

Planted in large groups, lavender, as well as offering a wide range of colour and scent, adds an animated hum to the sounds of the garden as bees seek out the highly attractive nectar and pollen.

We found some thoughts from the Royal Horticulture Society on their top ten award winning lavender that  add new colour and extend the growing season. You can read their recommendations here.

While not all the varieties listed are available in Aotearoa, any of the plants noted would certainly add to any gardens spring “daze”.
